Meet the Author Oct 30

From the inside cover of “The Fairy and the Chupacabra and Those Marfa Lights” by James A. Mangum and Sidney Spires:

“The de Veras fairy clan lives in the Glass Mountains near the village of Marathon, Texas. Javier, a fairy prince, decides to travel to town by himself. He ‘forgets’ to tell his parents. Once in Marathon, Javi encounters a very lonely and misunderstood chupacabra. Cuidado, Javier! Now his brave sister, Princess Marisol, must rescue him. Let the adventure begin!”

The Friends of the Val Verde County Library are pleased to host co-authors James A. Mangum, award-winning Texas novelist and folk artist, and his wife, Sidney Spires, with a Meet the Author reception 12:10 p.m. Thursday, October 30, at the Val Verde County Library.

We invite everyone to join us to meet these charming authors who “live in a tiny yellow house on a hill overlooking magical, mystical Marathon.”

They say that their West Texas neighbors include fairies, chupacabras, dragons, gnomos, javelinas, pronghorns, buhos, and other creatures. This probably explains a lot – but not everything – about this charming book.

Signed copies of the book will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Val Verde County Library. The Friends will be providing light refreshments for our delightful experience.
